WeTeach_CS Summit Spotlight – Joanna Goode brings knowledge and passion for access and equity to #wtcs2018
Joanna Goode’s research examines issues of access and equity for underrepresented students of color and females in computer science education. For the past several years, she has studied the institutional and psychological reasons preventing many underrepresented youth from entering the computer science pipeline in high school. As a former urban high school mathematics and computer science teacher, Goode considers the relationship between teacher development and opportunities to learn for students. She continues to serve as the director of a program aimed at preparing and supporting the efforts of LAUSD computer science educators in diversifying the high school computing pipeline. Joanna Goode also examines the potential of GIS maps to be used as both a learning tool in the classroom and as a means of informing policymakers on educational issues.
WeTeach_CS Summit Spotlight – Mike Belcher of HP to give teachers a view of the future of technology in education #wtcs2018
New Technologies are coming at us at an almost unthinkable rate and can be so confusing as to how we begin to plan for them in our educational systems. Mike Belcher, Director od EdTech Innovation at HP, Inc will share some of the most innovative technologies planned or releasing in the coming years and discuss the potential impacts of Xr (Virtual, Augmented and Blended Reality), Immersive computing, AI and 3D Printing on the private sector as well as K-12 and Higher Education.
WeTeach_CS Deep Dives is a special 1.5-day event which picks up right where the 2018 WeTeach_CS Summit (June 18-20) leaves off. So, if the three days of the WeTeach_CS Summit just doesn’t sound like enough CS professional development goodness for your tastes, then consider sticking around and taking part in WeTeach_CS Deep Dives! But you don’t have to attend the WeTeach_CS Summit in order to attend a Deep Dives course. Maybe you only have time to take a quick dip into one of the featured subjects. No problem–that’s what Deep Dives are for. Register today!
WeTeach_CS Summit Spotlight – Award winning CS educator Dylan Ryder to give two sessions at #wtcs2018
We were already thrilled to have Dylan Ryder share his unique ability to combine the creative arts and technology in the classroom with WeTeach_CS Summit attendees, but then we learned that he’s one of the 2018 CSTA / Infosys Foundation USA Teaching Excellence Award winners and can’t wait to congratulate him in person. We hope you’ll be able to join us in offering him a big Texas welcome and congratulations on receiving such a prestigious teaching award!
