STEP 1: Choose Testing Window

The TExES CS 8-12 Test is a Limited Administration test only available on certain dates. As you gain confidence in your programming skills and you feel that you will be ready to take the test in 3-6 months, then it is time to choose a Testing Window. The Testing Windows for the CS 8-12 Test are typically three days out of the month, every other month. Reminder: We are taking applications for Certification Incentive Program (CIP) stipends through the December 2017 testing window.

Remaining 2017-18 Testing Windows

  • August 15-18

Testing dates after September 1, 2018 TBA

STEP 2: Register for the Test

Each TEA testing windows has a separate registration period that starts approximately four months before the testing window starts. During this time frame, you will need to register with TExES to take the test. Note that even if you completed the CIP application and were accepted, you still need to register for the test on your own, directly with TExES. You will also need to pay all applicable fees, usually $131, for the test. If you have difficulty with these steps, call the TEA at 512-936-8400 and choose Option 1 for assistance. Follow these steps to register for the test:

  1. Complete additional fields, then choose “Add Test”
  2. On the “Schedule a Test” page, choose “Computer Science 8-12 (CAT) Test Code 241” for the test.
  3. Start Registration Process.
  4. Logon to TExES.
  5. Get a TExES account (if you don’t have one already).
  6. Get a TEA Login (TEAL) and TEA ID (if you don’t have them already).
