Highlights – TSTEM Computer Science/Elective Teacher

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

The elective teacher is responsible for classroom instruction of the high school PLTW curriculum and STEM elective courses which integrates science, technology and math concepts with engineering.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Certification Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Technology Education or Instructional Technology, Math and/or Science
  • Master’s degree preferred in Technology Education or Instructional Technology, Math and/or Science
  • 6-12 secondary certification required.
  • Knowledge of robotics and engineering.
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License
  • Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the employee

Experience

  • Experience in teaching PLTW, Introduction to Computer Science, CAD or engineering courses at the high school level
  • English, Math or Science preferred and/or CTE Technology Education, Instructional Technology
  • Experience coordinating plans and projects, and competing with students at a competitive level (i.e. Robotics Club, Coding Competitions) preferred

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

(The following statements describe the general purpose and responsibilities assigned and should not be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, skills, efforts, or working conditions that may be assigned or skills that may be required.)Introduce appropriate computing skills in all fields and to improve students’ cyber hygiene as outlined in the PLTW curriculum.

  • Assist with the dissemination and be responsible for materials related to the PLTW curriculum
  • Attend required Project Based Learning training (including summer)
  • Attend required PLTW training (including summer)
  • Lead STEM club and other STEM related activities (ex., First Lego)
  • Collaborate with core content teachers on designated PBL projects
  • Generate and engage student and community enthusiasm for TSTEM programs
  • Acts as a designated advocate for promoting the role of STEM in educating the whole child by creating partnerships within the school community and community-at-large generating valuable resources and contacts
  • Participate in professional development activities to maintain current knowledge of personnel rules, regulations, and practices
  • Maintain a consistent professional demeanor and appearance
  • Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job
