TeachCS is a new foundation launched to help high school teachers find and fund computer science professional development in one of three NSF supported curricula: Computer Science Principles (“CSP”), Exploring Computer Science (“ECS”), and Bootstrap. TeachCS, together with private sector partners, addresses the shortage of qualified computer science teachers in US public schools by helping eliminate the professional development cost barrier.

TeachCS uses an innovative funding model that blends sponsorships from corporate donors with local crowdfunding in school communities. TeachCS supports teachers with little to no background in teaching computer science but who are interested in becoming computer science teachers. The only hard requirements are 1) teacher interest in learning to teach computer science, and 2) the support of the school community, in particular the school principal and/or local superintendent, in the creation and sustainment of a computer science program for at least three years.
